Meet the TRIO SSS Staff

TRIO Student Support Services is dedicated to supporting you on your educational journey. Our TRIO SSS staff lead with a student-centered perspective based on our shared identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. We hold identities as first-generation, transfer students, TRIO alumni, and/or UC Berkeley alumni.

Peter (he/him) is a proud East Oakland native and product of Vietnamese refugees. As a TRIO alum and a UC Berkeley first-generation college graduate, Peter has dedicated his career thus far to serving first-generation students at the K-12, community college, and university levels. Prior to joining TRIO Student Support Services, he worked for the Pre-College TRIO Programs with the Center for Educational Partnerships. Peter obtained his EdD in Educational Leadership from UC Davis, MS in Biology (Physiology and Behavioral Biology) from San Francisco State University, MPH in Community Health Education from San José State University, and BA in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley.

Olivia Owens

Olivia (she/her) is a proud Bay Area native. She is an alum of Laney College within the Peralta Community College District. Then, she transferred to San Francisco State University, where she completed her BA in Africana Studies with a minor in Counseling. Soon after, she went back to SF State and received her MS in Counseling with a specialization in College Counseling and an emphasis in Career Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Prior to working at TRIO SSS, she was an Undergraduate Major Adviser for UC Berkeley’s Psychology Department. From being a first-gen student to now a first-gen professional, she has a passion for working with students from underserved communities.

Marcos Ramos

Marcos (he/him) was born and raised in Los Angeles. He is an alumnus of UC Berkeley and has dedicated over 20 years to a career focused on serving and working closely with first-generation, historically underserved college students. Before joining TRIO SSS, Marcos worked for the Educational Opportunity Program at UC Berkeley. He earned his MS in College Counseling from San Francisco State University, his BA in Chicano Studies from UC Berkeley, and his AA from East Los Angeles College.
