Albert (he/him)

Major(s)/Emphasis/Minor: Sociology, Public Policy
Past Activities: DPC intern at Berkeley Law, Berkeley Undergraduate Sociology Association, GSPP student researcher
Current Activities: intramural sports, various political groups on campus
Post-Graduate Plans: community work, graduate school, public service, teaching?, lots of sleep

Hey, y’all! My name is Albert. I am a first-gen, low income Latine transfer student majoring in sociology and minoring in public policy. I am from the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. My academic interests center around political and urban sociology, particularly social movements, state violence, political polarization, left & right wing populism, gentrification, educational equity, and everything that intersects with these topics. In my free time I like to go bicycling, camping, play sports, collect historical pieces, and write short stories online.

Feel free to talk to me about politics, religion, money, celebrity gossip—really anything! You can also come to me for any student insight on social science research, law internships, student club building, or sports on campus (soccer or baseball—Go Bears!). Looking forward to meeting each and everyone of you!

Helen (she/her)

Major(s)/Emphasis/Minor: Media Studies, Concentration in Media Law & Policy
Activities: Cal-in-Sacramento Fellow, cooking and baking

Hello! My name is Helen! I am a fourth-year transfer student from Sacramento, CA. I transferred from Sacramento City College, where I studied Communications, Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Science. I chose to pursue Media Studies because of its interdisciplinary nature, and the diversity offers many skill sets that allow me to tackle any post-graduate and career plans. In my free time, I love reading (mostly non-academic novels), cooking, baking, and spending time with my friends and family. I enjoy going to concerts, basketball games, and museums. Overall, I love being out of the house and exploring. I am passionate about education, public service, social activism, pineapple belonging on pizza, and being a first-generation immigrant and student. Please feel free to come to me with questions and conversations around any of my passions… or your own, public service internship opportunities, the media studies major, study abroad, and student life!

Zoe (she/her)

Major(s)/Emphasis/Minor: Media Studies, Concentration in Media Law & Policy
Activities: Fellowship Chair for Cal Rotaract (Rotary International), Media Studies Honors
Post-Graduate Plans: So many things! I want to pursue political broadcast journalism, but I am also extremely passionate about education and I’m thinking about law.

Hi! I’m Zoë, I am a first-generation Mexican-American and very proud of it. I was born in the States, but grew up in Mexico. My hometown here in California is a city called Delano, known for the United Farm Workers association established by Cesar Chavez himself, so most of my family are farmworkers. I am super passionate about social justice and advocacy, as well as BIPOC empowerment. I transferred here from Bakersfield College with two AA degrees; one in Political Science and the other in Communications Studies. I hope to explore a career and grad program in Education, while pursuing journalism on the side. Aside from academics, I enjoy sewing and drawing, and I also do quite a bit of volunteer work within the local Rotary club. Feel free to stop by TRIO SSS and chat with me! It doesn’t have to be about midterms or class schedules, but anything that is on your mind. I can’t wait to meet you!
